Cássio Machado de Campos Bottino graduated from the University of São Paulo with an MD in 1987 and PhD in 1991. From 1992-2004, he worked as a psychiatrist at the Geriatric Service of the State of São Paulo Employees Hospital. From 1996 onward, he was a medical assistant at the Institute of Psychiatry of the University of São Paulo Clinics Hospital. He currently serves as the Head of the Geriatric Unit and the Old Age Research Group at the Institute of Psychiatry in São Paulo.

Cássio Machado de Campos Bottino was the president of the Brazilian Association of Geriatric Nueropsychiatry (ABNPG) from 2005-2007. He also served as the Head of the Geriatric Psychiatry Department at the Brazilian Association of Psychiatry from 1999-2004 of which he is also a founding member

His research interest focuses mainly on dementia. He has also published 40 papers in peer-reviewed journals, a book, another 28 book chapters, and has presented more than 120 papers in scientific meetings.

Cássio Machado de Campos Bottino has been a member of IPA since 1993 and has contributed to the organization of IPA meetings held in São Paulo (1997), Porto Alegre (2000) and Rio de Janeiro (2009).
