Doh Kwan Kim, MD, PhD is a professor in the Department of Psychiatry, Director of Geropsychiatry, and Director of Residency Training and Education at the Samsung Medical Center, Sungkyunkwan University School of Medicine in Seoul, Korea. He also serves as the Scientific Chair of the Korean Association of Geriatric Psychiatry (KAGP) in South Korea and the Director of Educational Committee, Korean Society of Biological Psychiatry. In addition, he is a member of the Advisory Council for the National Institute of Health in Korea.

Dr. Kim completed medical school at Seoul National University and earned his PhD in neurobiology at Seoul National University. He completed his residency training in psychiatry at Seoul National University Hospital and a geropsychiatric fellowship at Duke University Medical Center in the United States from 1992-1994. Since then he has worked at the Samsung Medical Center where he shaped the Geropsychiatry Clinic and Acute Inpatient-Care Unit for the Elderly. He designed the educational curriculum for geropsychiatry fellowship trainees in Korea as a nationwide program director and organized the scientific programs of KAGP as the Scientific Chair. He contributed to the 2004 IPA Regional Meeting in Seoul as one of the steering committee members.

Dr. Kim has concentrated on the biological basis of the major neuropsychiatric disorders in the elderly, including affective disorders and Alzheimer’s disease. He has been a principal investigator on the Pharmacogenomic Study of Antidepressant sponsored by the Korea Health 21 Research and Development Project. He has (co-)authored more than 120 scientific articles including JAMA and book chapters, and received several national and international patents.
