Carlos Augusto de Mendonça Lima has been on the IPA Board of Directors since 2004 and a member of the association since 1995. At present, he has been re-appointed as Co-Chair of the IPA Advocacy Committee. His research interests include clinical pharmacology, biologic psychiatry, suicide and epidemiology in psychiatry of the elderly.

Among his accomplishments, Carlos Augusto de Mendonça Lima has authored and co-authored more than 120 abstracts and serves as a reviewer for 7 journals. Additionally, he was recognized for the development of the Quality Assurance Programme in Outpatient Facilities for Elderly Patients with Mental Disorders at the Department of Public Health, Country of Vaud, Switzerland from 1997-2000.

Carlos Augusto de Mendonça Lima graduated with an MD from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in 1982. He then went on to complete a postgraduate fellowship in Psychiatry in 1989 and doctorate degree in Pharmacokinetics and Clinical Pharmacology in 1994 from the University of Franche-Comté, France. Carlos Augusto de Mendonça Lima served in a variety of roles including as a teaching assistant for the Geriatric Psychiatry Day Hospital in Lausanne, Switzerland from 1993-1997 and Director of the World Health Organization Collaborating Center for Psychiatry of the Elderly in Lausanne, Switzerland from 1998-2004. He currently serves as Associate Professor of Psychiatry at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and Coordinator of the Department of Geriatric Psychiatry at the Rio de Janeiro State Association of Psychiatrists.
